Small Charity Week 2011: The biggest celebration of small charities ever!:

The 20th -24th June 2011 sees the biggest celebration of small charities in the UK – Small Charity Week. This week long celebration of the valuable work of the small charity sector is now in its second year and we hope it will be even bigger than last year.

The week will kick off with Campaigns Day, with a launch event and the opportunity to submit small charity films for broadcast on national television.

The week will be full of great events for small charities and their supporters, including Big Advice Day where small charities can seek expert advice from business leaders. There will also be an FSI hosted Policy Day at Westminster and a Fundraising Day – an opportunity to get together in your local community and raise funds for some really great causes.

The final day of the week long event is Celebration Day. Small charities do incredible work for some fantastic causes and this work often goes unnoticed. Celebration Day is a day to celebrate this work and to bring it into the public eye.

4 months, 5 jobs and 25 interviews later...

It is now 4 months since I graduated with a 2.1 in BA Politics from the University of Essex, 4 months, 25 interviews and 5 temporary jobs later I am beginning to realise that this graduate malarkey isn’t going to be as easy as most of us anticipated.

My ambition is to build a career in either PR/ Communications or public affairs. Since graduating I have done a multitude of part time temporary jobs but have got little closer to achieving this aim and certainly not through want of trying.

Currently I am signed up with 10 recruitment agencies. I am also registered online with many different recruitment websites. So far I would say that the Guardian Jobs is probably the most useful for getting interviews for the kind of jobs I want, however with competition so high at the moment getting interviews is no guarantee of getting jobs.

Still, I am currently optimistic (this is difficult when you have applied for approximately 1500 jobs in 4 month, but it is achievable!). I have a few things in the pipeline and every interview is a step closer to the one that will get you the job that you want. Today my main tasks are going to be trawling through yet more internet sites in search for that elusive job. As a graduate who is still without a job I suppose I am in no position to give advice but if I were the main advice I would give is to treat job hunting as your 9 to 5 job. In the current economic climate sending out one or two CVs a week just doesn’t cut it! Talking of which, this is the only procrastination I am currently allowing myself so back to ‘work’ for me…
